Damian Collins, the UK's gambling minister, has resigned.

Collins, the Folkestone and Hythe MP, had been Britain's Minister for Technology and the Digital Economy since Chris Philp resigned in July.

Collins, however, announced his resignation via Twitter, as part of a larger government upheaval following Rishi Sunak's nomination as Prime Minister.

Sunak, on the other hand, has chosen to keep Collins' boss, Michelle Donelan, as Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport.

During his term, Collins worked under Nadine Dorries and then Donelan, who was selected by Liz Truss to oversee the department in September.

"It has been a real pleasure to work with the team @DCMS to take forward the Online Safety Bill and other measures to strengthen our digital economy," Collins tweeted.

"I will now continue to support these efforts in parliament from the back benches."

Britain's betting sector is eagerly awaiting the release of a White Paper on Gambling Reform, which Philp claimed was "with No 10 for final approval" in his resignation letter.

However, since July, two prime ministers have came and gone, with little word of when the report will be published.

Various stakeholders have asked the government to publish the White Paper as soon as possible, and there is optimism that Sunak's premiership will deliver.

Collins, at least, provided a feeling of continuity, but his retirement is likely to generate new issues.
